ALISA YAMADA
CREATIVE BIO
With photography as her vessel, the vivid, visual narratives that unfold in Alisa Yamada’s compositions have been carefully curated through her distinct creative direction. Based in Naarm/Melbourne, Alisa is an emerging creative - her passion for the arts evident in all that she does. In harmony with her personal style, Alisa’s work embodies a feminine, ethereal quality with flora and fashion common themes that are intertwined in her work. The manipulation of light, colour and motion as well as her emphasis on the experimental, allow her visual practice to serve as an abstract reflection of the world through her eyes.
“I like to think my photographs are an extension of me - a visual aid for the stories inside my mind.”.

DESIGN STATEMENT
At its core, ‘Gemini’ is an abstract exploration of intrinsic duality. Symbolically, the Gemini is aptly represented by a set of celestial twins - of the quality in which two opposing ideas or feelings exist at the same time. There is no light without darkness, no sense of stillness without movement; through the use of contrast and motion, I aim to illustrate the very essence of duality in a contemporary context. With photography as my medium, abstraction, distinct line/direction and a monochromatic colour palette are used to reiterate this motif. Additionally, there is clear emphasis on set design and lighting style to bring this narrative of balance and reflection to fruition. The multifaceted nature of these themes allow for the prevalent use of symbolism – motifs such as mirrors, water and having two subjects/models are used with the intent to ensure that my ideas are conveyed clearly to the audience. I aim to additionally bring my own floral and
feminine flare to ensure not only cohesion but innovation.
