DESIGN STATEMENT:
UNCO, combines garments with sports environments to produce a humorous and surreal magazine. This nostalgic editorial is inspired by Annabelle’s lifelong dislike of sports and her experiences being left on the sidelines. The editorial creates an ironic yet poignant story by juxtaposing high fashion with sports through a self-deprecating visual narrative. Similar to sports, the world of fashion is a competitive field where originality and style strive for victory. In addition, Annabelle photographs and speaks with female athletes to promote a constructive narrative that women can succeed in environments where they may feel out of place . With a touch of satire and creative flair, the end result is a distinctive and captivating narrative on the intersection of one’s identity and societal expectations placed on women in male dominated spaces.
