BRITTANY FREEBAIRN
CREATIVE BIO:
Brittany Freebairn is a Sydney based fashion designer driven by a deep passion for design, sewing, and pattern-making. Her work reinterprets historical references through a contemporary lens, exploring how craftsmanship and imagination can merge past and present. Freebairn’s process is grounded in hands on making, the technical challenge of shaping fabric into expressive form. Inspired by eras of grandeur and organic motifs, her designs balance structure and softness, creating modern silhouettes with a narrative foundation. She is committed to developing innovative, tactile garments that celebrate individuality while honouring the art of traditional construction.
DESIGN STATEMENT:
This collection explores the relationship between historical structure and organic form, uniting Elizabethan grandeur with the natural shape of seashells. It explores how rigidity and softness can coexist through texture, silhouette and craft. Techniques such as slashing, boning, ruching and lace detailing form the foundation of the collection, reflecting both structure and softness. Luxurious materials like dupion silk, silk linen organza and wool blends enhance the dialogue between natural and architectural forms. The range evolves from sculptural statement pieces to refined separates, including wide leg trousers, a mermaid skirt, cigarette pants and a ruched blouse. Each piece embodies a balance of precision and movement, translating historical influence into a distinctly modern language. Through this collection, the past is not just referenced but transformed, a study of structure becoming organic, and history reimagined through contemporary form.
