DESIGN STATEMENT
Archive is an ode to art and design history exploring tradition reinterpreted in modern ways, highlighting the circularity of fashion and the cyclical nature of the trend cycle. Using the motif of a Zoetrope, a 1830s pre-film toy that creates the illusion of motion from still images, along with analog film elements, the campaign shares how fashion operates in a similar circular loop. Here we see how archetypes inspired by the past can become signifiers of future forward design in the present. The styling conveys a textured and tactile story, playing with bold directional lines and geometric shapes. With looks made from rented, thrifted, handmade and slow fashion garments, the campaign shares the value of second hand clothing discussing the way in which modern and vintage can work in cohesion. Presenting our everyday wardrobes as art shares how the choice to wear vintage, handmade and sustainably sourced fashion garments in a world that demands newness and conformity is where true style can shine.
