GINA JAFREEN
CREATIVE BIO:
Gina Jafreen is a Sydney-based fashion designer known for her experimentation with unconventional materials, avante garde silhouettes, and unique textures. This is drawn from her early fascination with media and grunge subcultures growing up, ultimately making up her unique design voice. She is inspired by beauty within the dark, whether that be the haunting allure of old horror or gothic architecture. Her work evokes a sense of mystery and defiance, whilst pushing the boundaries of structure and form. The goal is for the wearer to not only think, but feel powerful and elegant. Each garment created reflects her dedication to craftsmanship and fascination with the intersection of art, architecture, and subculture.
DESIGN STATEMENT:
Nocturne is an evening womenswear collection exploring cathedral interiors, the knight archetype and the dynamic line work within manga, particularly dystopian fiction. This is a collection for the modern female warrior—one who carries her vulnerability with pride, and her femininity with defiance. Each garment reimagines armour as a symbol of protection and empowerment, blending it with the fierceness and resilience found within the feminine form. The collection features a minimalistic colour palette of cool blue and shades of grey that evoke the elegance of weathered cathedral stone and iron. Each garment features asymmetrical structures, exposed boning and draping symbolic of metal sheets of armour. Whilst innovative 3D printing techniques bring a contemporary edge to the designs.
