CREATIVE BIO:
‘O beauty ever ancient, ever new...’ Isabelle Doueihi is a designer with a commitment to curate interiors that endure beyond the novelties of the moment. Proportion, to result in harmony; lucidity, to communicate a clear understanding; and integrity, to hold the composition accountable to its underlying philosophy, are the primary principles that govern her approach. Her work invites people to live with intention through the contemplation of beauty. With a respect for tradition and an eye for refinement, Isabelle believes that a design gains meaning when it serves both purpose and truth. Thus, she seeks to craft spaces that are functional as well as prolific in value to those who occupy them.
DESIGN STATEMENT:
You could call this project a ‘youth centre,’ however that brings to mind something very different to what this project actually is.
This design is conceived not as the primary focus, but as something to draw people in and provide a backdrop to the moments shared by those gathered there. The inspiration behind the aesthetic is largely drawn from retro cinemas and arcades, as well as nebulas. The aforementioned were once two of the most prominent third places for youth, and the cosmos have brought wonder to people all throughout the ages. The space is characterised by a ‘dim vibrance’ which makes the atmosphere feel dreamlike, evoking a sense of nostalgia.
