STUDENT BIO:
While growing up in Ballarat, Victoria–I had always taken a particular interest in fashion by styling my own clothes and making clothes for Barbies at a young age.Upon Completion of my Victorian Certificate of Education at Ballarat Grammar, I went on to study full-time dance and quickly realised it was not the right pathway for me. In My brief couple of months of rest, I decided I would give university another chance and reignited my passion for design. Undertaking study at Whitehouse Institute has been one of the greatest decisions I have made, I have quickly developed my design and technical skills and have discovered and grown my unique design style. I take particular interest in working with bright colours and prints and designing to make the wearer feel empowered and confident. I am excited for the future and seeing where my design skills take me.
COLLECTION STATEMENT:
My recent collection “Reverie” has been inspired by the dreaming state of our bodies at rest when we are most vulnerable. Chaotic, weird, appealing, and colourful–the collection takes us through the craziness of our dreams. The collection was inspired after reading R.Crumb's Dream Diary-A diary that depicts Crumb’s dreams as he remembers them, some with illustrations alongside-a variety of dreams, funny, sad, sexual and wacky, the diary takes the reader into the crazy subconscious ofCrumb. With silhouettes inspired by anti-fashion frontiers, Rei Kawakubo (Comme Des Garcons) and Yohji Yamamoto, Reverie takes on the kookiness of their designs, whilst upholding my own interests in bright colour schemes and print co-ordination. The daring silhouettes and incorporation of prints are the focal point of Reverie. The collection utilises fabrication of mainly leather; however, incorporates silk satins and mesh to portray the differing types of dreams we have.
