JESS MADDOX

CREATIVE BIO:
Jess Maddox is a creative designer skilled in sewing, pattern making, and various forms of artistic expression. Starting art lessons at the age of six, Jess developed a passion for textiles by age ten, which led to private sewing lessons. In addition to formal training, Jess has participated in numerous textile workshops and received mentorship from local artists in the Southern Highlands, NSW. These experiences have expanded her expertise in felting, weaving, natural dyeing, shibori (dyeing and heat setting), sashiko, Japanese boro, machine and sculptural embroidery, textile embellishment, basket making, and tessere weaving/wrapping.

DESIGN STATEMENT:
At the Whitehouse Institute of Design, Jess Maddox created a collection titled “Outflow,” which draws inspiration from the ocean and brings its essence into the realm of fashion. The collection captures the fluidity and texture of the sea, reflecting the forms of rocks, waves, and coral. These natural elements are reinterpreted through innovative textile techniques, including unique silhouettes, intricate beading, heat-set shibori, and diverse fabric manipulations.
