DESIGN STATEMENT Lineage is a profoundly personal collection that channels the designer’s Norwegian and Māori heritage, reflecting the unique cultural blending on a remote island in the southern reaches of Aotearoa (New Zealand). This collection delves into the intricate narratives of identity, belonging, and the union of Pākehā settlers with indigenous Māori, while capturing the rugged textures and hues of the coastline through earthy tones of sand, charcoal gray, sea green, indigo, and sky blue. Celebrating wool’s versatility, each piece features diverse wool derivatives from upcycled suit jacket panels to rich herringbone coating and soft merino jersey creating a tapestry of tradition and modern cross-cultural storytelling. Key garments include a 100% herringbone wool overcoat with double lapels, three jetted pockets, and panels from upcycled suit jackets, as well as a super soft merino jersey mini jumpsuit adorned with oversized cotton organdie flowers. A beautiful cotton organdie dress with hip pleats and paua shell sequins honours maori adornment,
while a wide-legged wool suiting palazzo pant jumpsuit with a fitted merino wool bodice reflects a contemporary approach. Another is a slimline long pencil skirt in wool, paired with a hand-printed peplum crafted from an upcycled suit jacket, and a soft merino jersey bodice with three-tiered puff sleeves. Large cotton organdie flowers with paua shell centers complete this ensemble, celebrating both heritage and innovation in each elegant, layered design.
