Mai Nguyen is passionate about art, and fashion is a form of art in clothing, both functional and aesthetic. Creating and designing new garments motivates her to do more and she is constantly looking for ways to improve. At fi rst she was unaware of how much responsibility to design clothes as she cared more for how the garment looked rather than how they would serve a purpose for the person who wears them. She knows now that fashion is more than just looks but the meaning and the people behind them.
DESIGN STATEMENT
Her journey began not knowing how pattern making and prepping fabrics are the key building blocks that have to be carefully considered and mastered before the fi nal product can be made, hence making her appreciate the fashion industry even more. Picking and choosing the right fabrication for the look was often a struggle with the limited range off ered in stores. However, she overcame this hurdle by getting herself familiar with diff erent fabric weaves and finishes.
