BIO:
Mary is a 2021 alumna of Whitehouse Institute of Design where she graduated with a Bachelor’s in Interior Design. She has a passion for simple yet creative and innovative solutions to interiors. With a background in science and history and also experience in the music industry, she has always loved bringing her creative visions to life. This first drew her to interiors: combining a practical mindset with creative flair. Use of colour, pattern and textural materiality can be seen in her residential and commercial explorations. With her love of mixing the old with the new in order to create functional and fresh spaces, she aims to give that personal touch to every design.

DESIGN STATEMENT:
The Animal Community Centre located in the town of Muswellbrook in the Upper Hunter region of NSW will work closely with the established veterinary clinics, local residents and council. The centre will facilitate cat and dog adoption as well as provide a space for animal and human recreation with an emphasis on the surrounding landscape. The program of the space includes a reception, retail space, cafe, office, employee break out, outdoor kennels, exercise yards and public seating. The ‘Rhythms of the Hunter’ is the conceptual foundation from which the project explores biophilic patterns, authentic innovative design and sensory experiences in order to reimagine animal care through the lens of hospitality. By creating a warm and engaging atmosphere the project aims to reduce the stresses associated with animal care for all involved, encourage social interaction and foster mental wellbeing.
