PROJECT STATEMENT:
“Braid” is a controversial and futuristic sustainable collection inspired by the braided hair of the Vikings, crossed with the fur textures of the cavemen of the early 20th century. The collection involves varying contrasting textures, such as fur, braided hair, and honeycomb texture, all produced with a strong emphasis on sustainable materials and ethical production. By utilizing hair and other eco-friendly textiles, it creates an interest in tactile and visual qualities while minimizing the environmental impact. I have incorporated the strong shapes found in European architecture and furniture throughout my sustainable collection. In Body 1, I utilize flared fur pants with a braided bandeau top and a circular high-neck jacket, all crafted with a sustainable approach. Body 2 is a strapless dress created from the braided hair, carefully sourced and produced sustainably. Lastly, Body 3 involves a strong bodysuit and fur leg warmers, all made with a focus on sustainability. My target market includes women aged 18-26 who keep up with fashion trends and like to make a sustainable statement through their fashion choices.
