DESIGN STATEMENT

Nulla surrounds the concept of connection as a means of bringing people together through beauty, fashion, and living. My concept embodies the idea that connection is both tangible and symbolic, represented through the layering of stories, textures, and imagery. Inspired by Nulla Nulla Creek, the project reflects a flowing sense of community and heritage, capturing the ways people connect with each other, with culture, and with place. At its heart, Nulla speaks to people of colour, those whose presence carries strength, beauty, and resilience. It celebrates the richness of identity and the fluidity of expression, giving space to stories that have long been underrepresented. The colour palette consists of earthy greens, grounding browns, and flowing blues, with pops of vibrant floral tones that represent moments of energy and renewal. The styling and creative direction focus on expressing connection through silhouettes and natural forms; gentle lines, organic shapes, and layered compositions that move together in harmony. Each image becomes a reflection of how connection flows through nature and self, both seen and felt. Indigenous flowers run as a constant symbol throughout, embodying resilience, renewal, and belonging. Just as these native blooms thrive within the land that shaped them, Nulla honours how people of colour grow, adapt, and connect; rooted in ancestry yet ever evolving.
