MIRNA NAMO
BIO:
Mirna's deep interest in fashion developed in her childhood when she began reworking discarded clothing into her fantasy outfits. This passion has been deepened through her studies at The Whitehouse Institute of Design, Australia. Upcycling continues to be an area of design which fascinates Mirna and she is keen to apply this to fashion. At the same time, she has a great respect for the traditions of tailoring and suiting. Colour also is important to her design process, bringing her work to life. Mirna is multi-lingual Assyrian/Australian designer who has an international outlook, having lived in locations around the world.
DESIGN STATEMENT:
The collection features a mixture of up cycled denim in several forms; knitted, dyed trims and appliquéd, combined with an original print design, leather, plaids and boucle. Across the collection, the eighteen pieces utilise elements of soft tailoring, denim workwear detailing and layered silhouettes. Relaxed and oversized shapes create a modern interpretation of women's and men's daywear.
The designs fuse organic and geometric lines to give the clothing a casual-smart vibe. The signature style emphasises non-traditional fabric combinations. Through creating and manipulating upcycled denim into contemporary fashion, the collection aims to present sustainable design concepts.
