BIO:
Mona is an Australian Palestinian designer currently based in Sydney. Mona’s intentions and unique design position as a designer is to build a platform for Palestinian creativity in Australia. The brand she wants to create for herself is about developing her contemporary Palestinian design identity by bridging traditional and political work with modern design. The mission is to create emotional connections with customers around the world through inspiring product design and to be synonymous with both elegance and creativity; to blend tradition and innovation through personal cultural references.
DESIGN STATEMENT:
Fantasised Derealisation. Is aiming to question the fantasised luxury ideals in mainstream fashion and present designs with the spirit of anti-fashion in relation to my political protest against the relentless ethnic cleansing and displacement of Palestinian people. This collection showcases an eclectic, intentionally discordant blend of bold symbolic prints, and vibrant colours, mixed together to create a sophisticated, daring look.This collection encapsulates how the industry mutes political messages throughout the design process, merging the boundary between high fashion and reality.
