DESIGN STATEMENT:
The collection project Astria Porta is developed through the exploration of the architectural and technological aspects of sci-fi culture and the world of art and sculpture. This capsule collection deconstructs the classic trench coat to create pieces that are bold and interesting through the use of natural fibres. The target market for the range consists of self-expressive and artistic individuals that desire a statement. (Although some pieces can be worn by both men and women), this collection is primarily targeted at the female demographic. The hero coat features an exaggerated shawl collar, lantern sleeves which all incorporate repetition, rhythm, and the element of transition in its intricate detail of texture to further emphasize the silhouette in an interesting way. This garment also features an empire-line belt placement to enhance the femininity of the female silhouette. The trench coat is a classic staple that will always be a wardrobe essential (Vogue, 2024). This look, inspired by the ‘trench coat,’ incorporates soft harmonious hues—a palette that always exudes elegance (The Nord Room, 2024)—with strong key shapes and textures that reflect these two worlds in an interesting, unique, and minimalistic way.
