STUDENT BIO:
Shannen Gaviola is an Australian born fashion designer based in Sydney, Australia. Since completing her bachelors of design degree, majoring in fashion at Whitehouse institute of design Australia had broaden her creative vision and perspective of contemporary fashion. Her personal design philosophy focuses on working with aspects of nature and bringing out its beauty through fashion. She works with utilising neutral tones to exemplify her message of nature and creates textures and functions through the simplistic designs she has constructed. Throughout Gaviola’s second year of fashion, she had developed her own label ‘Simple Studios’ which showcases the growth of her work and how she had formed herself as a designer. She continues to develop designs that focuses on voluminous shapes as textures, the distinct fabrication she chooses, the tones of her collection and the conceptual themes she desires.
COLLECTION STATEMENT:
‘Flora’ is a collection based on the natural themes of Australian farmlands and flora hence the title of this collection. It is formed to acknowledge Australian habitat and the unique flora that is available around us. As Australia is especially known for its dangerous animals and wild heat, this collection represents the essence of a gentle antidote to Australia’s harsh nature. ‘Flora’ collection is heavily inspired by both traditional yet contemporary styles of fashion. Bringing a modern take on agricultural fashion. ‘Flora’ uses quality fabrications that are functional, stylish and breathable made for Australian outdoor events like night dinners in wineries, or as simple as riding horses down a paddock. The Hero piece which is the garment with the most structural designs is further driven by natural elements such as earth minerals i.e an alabaster mineral and other unique traits of Australian nature.
