SKYE MCPHEE
CREATIVE BIO:
Skye McPhee is a fashion designer from NSW, Australia. She currently lives in Melbourne, where she has honed her skills allowing her to bring her avant garde garments to life. She has become increasingly interested in how silhouettes can make a design unique and finding ways to use shape to create interchangeable and multi-occasional designs for both men and women. Her knowledge and upbringing in and around the art world has allowed for the development of her innovative and cutting-edge designs. She also utilizes mixed media practices by implementing less common materials as textiles such as resin. Skye’s knowledge of patternmaking and garment construction has allowed her to push the boundaries of traditional silhouettes in an effort to create luxurious statement pieces. The target market for this graduate collection are individuals aged 25 to 45 who appreciate the relationships between art and design and want to invest in luxury slow fashion garments. This demographic includes both men and women with disposable income, who value quality, versatility, and singularity in their wardrobes. These individuals are daring in their clothing choices and treat the streets as their own personal runway. Often seeking pieces that reflect their unique personalities while allowing for creative expression through interchangeable designs. The collection allows for the target market to buy individual garments that are one-of-one and are completely unique to what the Australian fashion market shows on their shop floors.
DESIGN STATEMENT:
‘Biomorphic’ is a womenswear collection that portrays elements of art & design through the use of exaggerated proportions, iridescent overlays and different shades of blue. ‘Biomorphism’ is implementing naturally occurring shapes or patterns into products with more functional elements. This notion was achieved within this collection while merging it with more structural inspirations such as architecture. ‘Biomorphic’ is highly sculptural as much of its inspiration was built from the foundations of artists; this is present in the resin pieces that remain a staple throughout the collection. In this collection, we aim to challenge traditional notions of fashion by merging artistry with wearable design. By drawing inspiration from the natural world and the art world, this collection seeks to captivate audiences with its bold colours, intricate details, and avant-garde silhouettes. This collection includes exaggerated banana sleeves, an asymmetrical collar, spiral coils and an “armored” hard bodice. Each design has been crafted in deep blue wool fabrics that have each been manipulated to fit the individual vision of the collection.
