Skyla’s graduate collection received a grant from the Australian Wool Educators Trust.
DESIGN STATEMENT
‘Martian’ is a womenswear winter collection that draws inspiration from the 1960s Space Age era. It reimagines it in a futuristic aesthetic through a contemporary and sustainable perspective. Embracing the 60s fascination with exploration and innovation, the designs feature asymmetrical and sculptural silhouettes using circular shapes. Each look is made primarily using wool, a natural, renewable fibre chosen for its structure, wearability and durability. Wool is also worn by astronauts to improve breathability, insulation and performance.
The palette leans into flame reds, metallics, and luna whites, paying homage to the beauty of space and spacecraft. Textural contrasts and geometric structures evoke the tactile surfaces of Mars.
Ultimately, this collection is a statement on the future. Each piece has been crafted to reflect the balance between form and function, incorporating zero-waste construction techniques that minimize environmental impact while maximising style and longevity.
