WILSON ADAMS
DESIGNER BIO
Wilson Jedd Adams is an emerging fashion designer, photographer and artist. He works with a range of different mediums, from film to mixed media. His artistic approach is translated into his print heavy, deconstructed and voluminous fashion designs. He is determined the fuse the worlds of fashion, art and design across his work.
He has completed a Bachelor of Contemporary Art at the University of South of Australia, School of Art, Architecture and Design in 2019. During his studies he has landed multiple exhibitions and had his work in emerging publications. His graduate body of work was successful landing his work in the Helpmann Academy’s Graduate Exhibition in 2019. He was awarded by the Helpmann Academy the SALA (South Australian Living Artists) Award and which allowed him to exhibit his solo exhibition Evil Eye in 2021 at the Main Gallery.
This later followed him to a Bachelor of Design (Fashion Design) at the Whitehouse Institute of Design, Melbourne Campus. During his studies he has had designs exhibited in Melbourne Design Week in Calum Hurley’s exhibition HARD in 2022. Throughout his final year, he was recipient of the Australian Woolmark Grant to produce his graduate collection. He was lucky to his designs featured in the Melbourne Fashion Week Student Runway in 2022. He has also been selected by Melbourne Fashion Hub to be in their pop-up store in Emporium in 2023.
DESIGN STATEMENT
Triptych is a collection that draws from Hierononymus Bosch's infamous painting of the "Garden of Unearthly Delight" and the queer nightlife. It exposes a weird, wonderful world of deconstruction, maximalism and prints. I intended for each body to communicate a the different three acts found in Bosche's painting they are disorder, chaos and hell. As well fusing the worlds of nightlife, disco, Club Kids and Leigh Bowery. It also utilises recycled kilts to form one of the looks. The use of deconstruction is used in the suiting, conflating ideas about womens and mens dressing. The high use of maximalism, old glamour and referencing Serge Lutens through my hero bodies. Across this body of work I intended for it show the grungy aspects of nightlife and how its pushed to its extremes.
